Sympathy Card- No Time to Stamp Challenge #128

Sadly, I had to make a sympathy card today for a friend whose close Aunt passed away last week from cancer. I was reading the challenges and saw that No Time to Stamp had one for sympathy cards (which are always difficult to create). I like using this memories verse from Cloud 9 Stamps on my sympathy cards as I feel it really expresses how you might remember someone's life.

The "scallop oval edging and flowers" is an unmounted stamp from Pez-a-Doodle Stamps that I embossed with gold EP on K&Co paper. Here's the link: http://www.pezadoodle.com/buscfr.html

I used a Spellbinders Oval Nestie to cut out the center to make a window card. The edge of the oval is embossed, but hard to see in the pic. The butterfly is cut with a Spellbinders die from embossed vellum. Sheer ribbon, primas, and pearls for dimension. I also embossed a smaller butterfly and group of flowers on the inside of card.

Sort of Vintage/Collage? Tuesday Taggers Challenge -Get Messy

I dug out some old stamps over the weekend that I haven't used in quite a long time...over two years maybe??? Anyhow, Tuesday Taggers challenge was to "get messy".

So I got out a piece of K & Co vintage script paper. On it I sponged Teal ink over a Tim Holtz Flourish mini-mask on opposite corners, stamped a french script stamp in SU Creamy Caramel in the middle; tore/distressed the edges of the paper and sponged with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distressed ink. I also sponged Teal ink on the coupon, and the TH Tea Dye ink on the embossed Eiffel Tower, and edges of the cream C/S layers.
The vintage ladies are stamped with Stazon Timber Brown on acetate, and coloured behind with SU Taken with Teal and SU Creamy Caramel Marker. The brown scroll corners are a Sizzix Sizzlets die, and the tag is by Spellbinders, wrapped with copper sheer ribbon and popped up by foam tape.

I'm not sure if I'm happy with the result, but it was good to "give some love" to my old stash of stamps. I didn't photograph my messy hands, but they were quite teal on the end of the fingertips, along with brown smudges that looked like a cigarette smoker (which I'm not!) LOL

Saturday Spotlight - Get Messy! Birthday Card

Saturday Spotlight Challenge was to get messy on your card. I did an alcohol ink background for the cuckoo image; sanded/distressed the background Cuttlebug Script layer (Co-ordination paper that is actually Dark Teal colour IRL) and inked with Versamark Chalk "Wheat"; also inked/sponged the layers with SU Blue Bayou. My fingers had lots of ink stains after doing all that!

This card also qualifies for several other challenges:

I dropped my camera the other day, and hope I didn't damage it. I noticed on the last two pics of cards that they seem "distorted" in shape, rather they look bent or rounded in the middle, and the colour is way off on the above card. In real life, the Coordination Paper is much darker teal, more like the colour of the Copic marker on the cuckoo clock;the yellow Bazzill is deeper yellow; and the patterned paper is teal, rather than sort of grey. All the colours look washed out or something. I guess I'll have to wait and see if it corrects over time. (SIGH!)

That's all for today!

Saturday Spotlight Challenge (with household item)

The challenge at Saturday Spotlight was to use a household item on your card. Recently I got this new House Mouse stamp which just lent itself to using a real sewing needle and thread. I will have to post this in a padded envie to protect the Postman! (although I did cut off the end of the needle and covered it with a touch of crystal glaze, so it's not really that sharp)

I also used a bit of lace leftover from a sewing project, and dental floss on the buttons. Both the lace and dental floss are sponged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink-Corduroy to give them a vintage look. The right edge is embossed with a Cuttlebug border of buttons from the "Just My Type" folder, and also sponged with TH Distress Ink. The image is coloured with Copic markers.

Inside, it reads Sew Much! (Thank you.....Sew Much!)

I haven't done any stamping lately, although I have coloured some House Mouse images for future cards. I'm still playing with my new Cricut to figure out all the icons on the cartridges.

Here are a few more cards I recently received from friends. Aren't I the lucky one? LOL! They are beauties for sure!

K L Stampin N Scrappin Challenge #15 Sketch

I did a valentine theme for the Sketch Challenge #15 on K L Stampin N Scrapping Blog. Here's the link:
http://klstampinnscrappin.blogspot.com/2010/01/challenge-15-with-prize.html

Last week my birthday present,a new Cricut Create machine, arrived from Canada Post. I was playing with the Storeybook cartridge and made a pretty frame which I incorporated into the sketch. It is very 'delicate' and tends to bend easily when handling, so I'll have to be more careful when doing future ones. Lesson learned! (wink!)
